There is no question that the Toronto Maple Leafs have been looking to the Calgary Flames as their potential trade partner at the deadline. The Leafs will be looking for a blueliner, and Noah Hanifin is at the top of their list.
However, Elliotte Friedman has now come out and said that Hanifin isn't interested in signing an extension in Canada. Friedman also goes on to note that the Tampa Bay Lightning are a better fit for Hanifin.
It was previously thought that the Leafs would have one of the best chances at nabbing Hanifin, with Brad Treliving's previous history in Calgary, however, this no longer feels like the case.
The Leafs have been linked to other defensemen ahead of the deadline as well. One of those is Mario Ferraro of the San Jose Sharks, who could be a good option to add to the Leafs' depth.
One thing is clear more than any other year, the Leafs need to add a solid blue-liner who is capable of playing with Morgan Rielly on the first pairing. It now depends on what Brad Treliving is willing to give up.
