The renowned insider Elliotte Friedman revealed a weird update on William Nylander's disappearance for the first game of the playoffs.

With Nylander missing the first game of the series against the Boston Bruins, but playing all 82 games of the regular season, there's been a lot of speculation about his mysterious injury.

The Leafs' management didn't shy away from resting their players in the last few games for them to be at 100% for the playoffs. Max Domi, Morgan Rielly and Joel Edmundson missed games, but not Nylander.

The Swedish forward finished the season at 98 points and could've been insisting to play all games to reach 100 points. However, that possibility was dismissed by Friedman on 32 Thoughts, who doesn't think it could've happened.

"Here's why it's weird. The thing that's weird about it for me is Toronto was resting guys who were hurt. Late in the year they did not care about where they finished, they were saying we are starting guys healthy. Domi rested, Edmundson rested, even Rielly got games off, so I don't see any chance that if they would have known anything was wrong with Nylander that he would have played cause he says 'Oh I'm going for 100 points' I just don't see that.

"This is weird," admitted Friedman. "To me this whole thing is weird and I'm just curious to see where it all plays out. I have theories, but I just don't believe at this time of year you should guess on injuries unless you absolutely 1 billion percent know what they are."
