John Tavares opens up on signing a contract extension with the Leafs
In his end-of-season media availability, the Toronto Maple Leafs' captain John Tavares opened up on signing a contract extension.
After yet another disappointing elimination in the round one, the Leafs were back in Toronto to meet with the media. One of the hottest topic this summer will be Tavares' contract extension and he mentionned the subject in his interview.
He revealed that he hasn't thought about it yet, but that should happen in due time. He reiterated his love for the Leafs and believes this group can push through.

"John Tavares says he hasn't given much thought to an extension this summer yet. That will happen in due time. Reiterates his love for playing in Toronto and trusts the group can push through."
Tavares says he hasn't put much thought into a contract extension yet but says: «I love playing here.»
Tavares, 33, has a year left on his $11M AAV contract. This season, in 80 games, he tallied 19 goals and 36 assists.
If he wants to remain in Toronto, it's clear that he'll need to accept a lower salary than what he earns now.
