While the offense was bad for the Maple Leafs in their seven game series against Boston, scoring just 12 goals over that time, the defense was just as bad, falling apart at the worst possible times throughout the series. With a lack of explosive offense coming from the back end, Toronto will need to fill some huge holes on that blue line, and now Sportsnet's Luke Fox has revealed Brett Pesce should be their top target.
Pesce has been out of the Hurricanes lineup since April 22, so there's no guarantee that he will return to the ice during the teams current playoff run, but given what the Leafs saw out of their blue line in the post-season, he would absolutely be an upgrade.
Now, David Pagnotta has officially reported that the Maple Leafs are looking to let veteran TJ Brodie hit the open market, so with the money to spend they will be looking at a major upgrade, and will now fight to land Pesce's signature when free agency begins.
