On February 10th, the Leafs lost their 3 game out of 4 versus their rivals across the Ontario border, the Ottawa Senators. In that game, Ridly Greig decided to do a devious slapshot in front of the empty net by the Leafs which caused Morgan Rielly to lose his mind and show his outrage on Greig with a vicious cross check, leading to a 5 game suspension. Morgan Rielly finally spoke out after the end of his suspension.

Rielly comments on recent incident with Greig

the cross-check was «not intended to be executed the way it was.»

«It was a reactionary thing. I just wanted to address something,

Morgan Rielly decided to appeal his five game suspension to the NHL which quickly got upheld on their decision in an 11 page statement from the commissioner Gary Bettman.

«Based on my review of the video,» Bettman wrote in an 11-page statement, «I find that Mr. Rielly's actions were not merely careless or reckless, they were intentional.»

Rielly and many fans across the NHL felt that type of reaction was appropriate as it seemed "disrespectful" on Greig's behalf.

You don't normally see players do what Ridly Greig did when an empty net goal is presented in front of them therefore the argument is valid, but the crosscheck to the neck was very unnecessary.

The Maple Leafs are currently 4-0 since the Morgan Rielly suspension was given and are facing the Arizona Coyotes tonight for the final game of the 5 game long suspension Rielly is facing.

Here's to hoping an incident like this won't happen again.
