Penguins GM Kyle Dubas holds a strategic meeting with Sidney Crosby
On wednesday, Kyle Dubas faced the media for an important press conference regarding the Penguins future and status going into the trade deadline. It highlighted the point on whether the Pens will throw in the towel for their season. Dubas insisted that he is remaining patient, but also mentioned his interest on adding some youth to the aging squad. We now have clarity on Crosby's future in Pittsburgh.
Dubas and Crosby on the same page
Many have questioned the possibility of Sidney Crosby leaving the Steel City if Dubas decides to blow the place up, but Dubas stood firm when talking about his captain. Dubas also mentioned how it would be extremely difficult to start a full scale rebuild when they have a superstar like Sidney Crosby.
When you have players like that, they prevent you from getting there because they're too good. What they can pass onto players coming into the organization, it's impossible to measure. That's what we would set out to do, whether it's our own (prospects) or future draft picks/younger players we can bring in via trade, that can serve to expedite things and make sure there isn't a massive breach.»
Dubas affirmed that he would like for the Penguins to add some youth while intergrating with some of their vets like Kris Letang, Malkin, Karlsson, etc.
NHL Insider believes Crosby wants to stay
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman believes that if Crosby wanted a trade out of Pittsburgh, he would've said it by now and would've showed unhappiness, which is not the case.
«Crosby said that he wants to be a Penguin for the rest of his career. I think if that were to change, he would have to let them know that. I think they've discussed it with him, I find it very hard to believe [] I would be surprised if Dubas hasn't talked to Crosby already, if he hasn't filled him in on what he's thinking or how he thinks he's going to get there.
«I think the Penguins know exactly what they could look like if there'a an extension with Crosby and I believe that if the Penguins had reasons to believe that Crosby was unhappy, they'd probably have a good inkling of that already.»
So many unanswered questions in Pittsburgh, but we are in for an interesting few weeks.
More details to come.
