Sheldon Keefe reveals bad news regarding Timothy Liljegren

After tonight's game against the Washington Capitals, an update has been provided on the health of defenseman Timothy Liljegren. While fans were holding out hope it sounds as though the injury is a significant one.

Just before the puck drop for the Toronto Maple Leafs game against the Washington Capitals concerning news was announced regarding an injury to Timothy Liljegren. The team announced that Timothy Liljegren was dealing with an upper-body injury and was out for tonight's game. This came as a shock after Timothy Liljegren skated this morning and was projected to be in the lineup.

As a result, veteran Mark Giordano came into the lineup. The game was a major moment for Mark Giordano as he scored a goal which he dedicated to his father. The Maple Leafs would go on to roll the Capitals in a 5-1 win.

After the game while everyone was happy about the win concern built for Timothy Liljegren. Head coach Sheldon Keefe addressed the injury and gave Maple Leafs fans some bad news.

Sheldon Keefe confirms Timothy Liljegren will miss time with injury

During his post-game press conference, Sheldon Keefe was asked about the health of Timothy Liljegren. Instead of downplaying the severity of his defenseman's injury Sheldon Keefe was honest. He confirmed that Timothy Liljegren will miss time due to his injury.

Timothy Liljegren is going to «miss some time,» per Keefe.

The Maple Leafs bench boss confirmed that the absence would be for a while but did not give a specific timetable. With the Stanley Cup playoffs fast approaching the timing of Timothy Liljegren's injury is not ideal.

Hopefully, the injury is not as severe as originally thought and he returns in time for playoff hockey.
