After health issues limited the Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman John Klingberg to only 14 games this season, a new development concerning his recovery gives fans hope for the future.

Major Development Concerning Klingberg's Recovery Process

In December, Leafs general manager Brad Treliving confirmed that Klingberg wouls undergo a season-ending hip surgery.

The insider Chris Johnston recently shared in a recent episode of TSN's Insider Trading that John Klingberg has officially begun his recovery and will aim to return in the NHL next season.

"Well, nothing changed in terms of him being ready for this season, but what is changed is he is on the road to recovery now. John Klingberg had a bilateral hip resurfacing procedure done earlier this month in New York. He's now working back towards what will be a long recovery process, kind of similar to the procedures that were done Patrick Kane and Jesse Puljujarvi before they return to pro hockey this year.

And so for Klingberg, there's some uncertainty. He was only on a one year deal with the Leafs, so he will be a free agent this summer.

But he's a player that is going to try to work his way back once he gets to full health."

Johnston compared Klingberg to Kane and Puljujarvi, who both returned from major surgeries this season. There is hope for a return next season and unless he faces setback in his rehabilitation, the defenseman shoud be able to return next year.

Klingberg will be a free agent at the current season and we'll need to wait until next summer to find out if a team decides to take a chance on him.
