During a recent write-up NHL insider Frank Seravalli discussed the upcoming NHL trade deadline. One of the players that Seravalli has confirmed should be available is Montreal Canadiens forward Sean Monahan.
Monahan is in the last year of his contract with the Canadiens and has been on a tear. In 46 games this season Monahan has put up 31 points a huge improvement back to his prime numbers from several seasons ago.
With this improvement comes a high price tag to acquire Monahan and likely a bidding war according to Seravalli. If the Canadiens do part with Monahan Seravalli expects the Toronto Maple Leafs to be one of the contenders to land him for one specific reason.
Frank Seravalli continued and talked about teams that could be interested in Monahan. Seravalli believes due to general manager Brad Treliving the Maple Leafs could be heavily interested.
The Maple Leafs have struggled to find a third-line center to round out their lineup and Monahan could fit that role perfectly. However, Seravalli also says that Monahan is likely to go for at least a first-round pick.
If the Maple Leafs are going to land him they will need to part with significant assets that could be used to help other parts of the team.
