The Toronto Maple Leafs have seen some success in 2023-24, but in order to chase a Stanley Cup, it's well known that they will need to make some big moves ahead of the March 8 trade deadline.
After some speculation, David Pagnotta has officially linked the Toronto Maple Leafs to veteran center Sean Monahan, who is having a fantastic season in 2023-24.
Unfortunately for the Maple Leafs, Monahan is with their rival Montreal Canadiens, so if they are to pry the 29-year old away, they will need to pay more than perhaps other teams.
A career revival for the veteran Monahan
Despite being just 29-years of age, Monahan has gone through plenty of injury issues, missing over 75 games in the past three years, but in 2023-24, he appears to be turning a corner.
He has played in 49 games for the Canadiens this year, putting up 13 goals and 35 points over that time, and given what he's been able to achieve with young players around him, if he can join the star studded Maple Leafs lineup, things could get even better.
While many assumed his career was coming to an end due to injury, the former Calgary Flames first-round pick has persevered, and if he can stay healthy, he could be a key depth piece for a Maple Leafs team chasing Stanley Cup glory.
