The Toronto Maple Leafs have made some great additions to their blue line line this off-season, but the expectation is that they could still swing a blockbuster trade before the 2024/25 season begins.
Most of those deals are centred around star forward Mitch Marner, and now another intriguing deal has emerged that would see the team land former No. 1 overall pick Alexis Lafreniere, along with a talented, hard-hitting defenseman.
On paper, this appears to be a deal that favours the Rangers, but with the Maple Leafs getting back a hard-hitting leader like Jacob Trouba could be just the X-factor this blue line needs, especially with the uncertain future of Jani Hakanpaa.
However, it's highly unlikely that either of these teams would want to make a deal with a conference rival, and with Lafreniere not quite as proven as Marner, it may not be a deal that Toronto would be happy with.
If they were to make a deal however, the focal point for Toronto would be former No. 1 pick Alexis Lafreniere, who took a major step forward in 2023/24, tallying a career high in goals with 28 and points with 57, while having a bright future ahead at just 22-years of age.
This deal may not be out of the realm of possibility, but for the Maple Leafs to swap a win-now player like Marner for a future asset may not seem wise, so don't hold your breath on something like this happening.
