Ovi had a tough first half of the season, which made him think that the team was looking to trade him at the deadline.
He opened up about his situation in Washington, and how happy he is that he remained with the team that drafted him back in 2004:
Fortunately for the Caps, Ovi found his stride after the All-Star Break and ended the year with a great tally of 65 points, including 31 goals, in 79 games.
If Washington decides to part ways with him, they would have a big challenge on their hands. He has two seasons left on his $9,500,000 AAV contract with a no-trade clause. Also, he significantly slowed down in recent years, which is normal for a 38 year old player. With that in mind, it would be surprising to see teams interesting in acquiring him on the trade market.
He's only 41 goals away from Wayne Gretzky's mark and it is expected that he'll reach it before the end of his contract, and that it'll be with the Capitals.
