New York Rangers rookie Matt Rempe has earned a reputation as a bit of a goon, but he's not afraid to fight anyone. Tonight though he changed his tune as he refused to drop the gloves with Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson.

The tussle came in the second period of the game with the Rangers up 2-1. Tom Wilson tried to fire up his team by dropping the gloves with the massive Rangers center, but Rempe refused, simply shooing him away. It was actually quite entertaining to see Wilson attempt to shove Rempe and he barely moved at all.

Rempe shrugs off Wilson 👀

Rempe has clearly gotten under the Capitals skin in the game and the series. This continued tonight when he made a huge hit on defenseman Trevor Van Riemsdyk, who would later exit the game and not return. This is likely part of the reason Wilson wanted a piece of Rempe.

Matt Rempe was called for interference on this hit against Trevor Van Riemsdyk

The fan reaction to the hit was mixed, but many thought it was quite a dirty play. Some even called for the Rangers rookie to be suspended, which is certainly a possibility. Rempe was given a minor penalty for interference on the play.

A BLATANT HEAD SHOT that caused an injury deserves a suspension!

We will just have to see how the rest of the series plays out and what the Department of Player Safety thinks about the hit on Van Riemsdyk, but right now it looks like it will be a short series with the Rangers poised to take a commanding 3-0 lead tonight.
