The Vegas Golden Knights got some bad news when Mark Stone left his last game early and did not return. Yesterday, general manager Kelly McCrimmon updated his status and it did not seem like good news. However, another update today should bring some hope to fans of the team.

Golden Knights Announce Stone Injury Is Not Back Related

The major concern for Golden Knights fans was that the upper-body injury was related to his back. The 31-year-old winger has dealt with serious back issues over the past few seasons. At one point, it was believed that he may never even play in the NHL again. As such, avoiding another back injury is critical for the captain.

Per Head Coach Bruce Cassidy:

- Mark Stone is week-to-week with an upper-body injury. The injury is not related to his back.

Golden Knights Place Mark Stone On Injured Reserve

That being said, the team will still be without their captain for a significant period of time. The Team officially placed Stone on injured reserve today, but notably, he did not go on long-term injured reserve.

Still though, the Golden Knights have been playing mediocre hockey lately and they now face the very real possibility of being passed in the standings by the Oilers. Edmonton is just two points behind Vegas with three games in hand. Stone has been a huge part of the team with 53 points in 56 games this year.
