According to Sportsnet's Eric Engels, Montreal Canadiens defenseman Jeff Petry came close to being traded to Philadelphia at the trade deadline.
Here is the trade that ultimately fell through:
To Montreal: James Van Riemsdyk and a quality prospect
To Philadelphia: Jeff Petry (with salary holdback)
Unfortunately, the Flyers would be on the list of 15 teams that Petry would not want to play for. However, could he change his mind and leave Montreal? Yes.
Van Riemsdyk earns $7M per year until 2023. He has 27 points in 64 games this season.
To be continued this summer.
