After Thursday's game against the Florida Panthers, Arber Xhekaj rose to the top of the NHL in one specific category: penalty minutes. He collected 15 during this game.
He passed Nicolas Deslauriers, who had been leading the NHL in penalty minutes for most of the season. Xhekaj is now 10 minutes ahead of him. The two players are also tied for the number of fights, with eight.
The Habs are officially the most penalized team in the NHL with 607 penalty minutes. This is an aspect of the game that Martin St-Louis will absolutely have to correct, as penalties often dictate the pace of a game.
