Dominik Hasek, a former NHL goalie, called on the league to immediately halt any contracts with "Russian players" over the weekend.
"All Russian players' contracts must be suspended immediately by the NHL!" Every athlete not only represents himself and his club, but also his country's beliefs and activities. That is a proven fact. If it doesn't, the NHL bears indirect culpability for the deaths in Ukraine."
Russian clubs will be withdrawn from FIFA products, according to a statement, in a "demand for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine." Soon after, NHL 22 followed suit, announcing that clubs or national teams affiliated with Russia or Belarus would be eliminated in the "coming weeks."
