Canucks Player Looking for a $6-Million AAV Raise Which May Force Him to be Traded
The Vancouver Canucks were gifted an amazing player when Russian free-agent Andrei Kuzmenko opted to sign with the team.
He has been off to an exceptional start, similar to that of Artemi Panarin's.
With 17 goals, and 35 points in 39 games, Kuzmenko is a phenomenal trade chip on his $950,000 entry-level cap-hit. However, it appears that Vancouver wants to hold onto him.
The bad part here is that due to his exceptional play, he is supposedly expecting a bridge-deal with a cap-hit above $6-million.
Here is Pierre LeBrun of The Atheltic's quote on the matter:
I'm hearing that teams are calling more and more on pending UFA forward Andrei Kuzmenko. When one considers how cap-strung so many playoff-bound teams are, a player of his ability and cheap cap hit is a gift from heaven. However, I also heard Tuesday that the Canucks aren't sure yet they want to part with him, as they haven't given up hope on the idea of re-signing him. There haven't yet been any contract talks on an extension between the Canucks and agent Dan Milstein, although I suspect that will happen within the next month. I would imagine the starting price from the Kuzmenko side would be at least $6 million a year on a bridge deal.
With the Canucks already near the salary cap limit for next season, not including captain Bo Horvat if they can find a way to keep him, this will be a tough deal to fit in.
If you were the GM of the Canucks, would you trade him, or re-sign him?
