It was earlier this week when ESPN's John Tortorella claimed Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid should «just shut up» over his lack of penalties.
While some agreed with Torts, many rushed to McDavid's defence, a player who seldom disputes on-ice officials and has never attacked referees in the media.
On Thursday morning, he took an aim at Tortorella.
Guess I just have to shut up,» McDavid said.
It's rare to see this from McDavid, who has been known to be rather robotic in media appearances. Maybe this is the start of him developing a personality towards the media and voicing his opinion on the lack of punishments imposed on him. It will be fascinating to see how Tortorella responds to this.
