Don Cherry speaks about the truckers heading to Ottawa
With Cherry's roots from Ontario, it's no surprise that he made a remark on the trucker caravan headed to Ottawa on Friday. Cherry made it clear that he fully supports individuals protesting against government demands around the country.
"I am totally behind the truckers," Cherry told the Toronto Sun. "They are the soul of the country."
Interestingly, Cherry acknowledged that he has been completely vaccinated, thus his stance on this issue is not based on a desire to avoid vaccination. His support for the convoy comes from his idea that every Canadian should be free to make their own decisions.
"It should always be a person's choice," he stressed. "I had three shots, but I chose them." I never told anyone else what to do, and I never will. He says.
Cherry has always had a deep respect for the men and women who serve in the Canadian Armed Forces, and this seems to have affected him on this issue.
"All those troops killed for freedom of speech, choice, and voting,» Cherry said.
But it wasn't just the truckers who gained Cherry's love; he also thanked the Canadians who stood out in the cold to cheer on the convoy.
"I am especially impressed at the crowds on the roadways and bridges," Cherry added. Everyone is offering lunches and hugs across the country. Amazing. That's not easy. It's -20C. "Yet they are there to support the trucks."
