GM Kent Hughes spoke to the Rangers about Lafrenière

It's believed that the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers are close to making a deal.

According to Eklund from HockeyBuzz, sources say the Montreal Canadiens are interested in bringing Quebec born Alexis Lafreniere, while the Rangers have been reportedly interested in two Canadiens: forward Artturi Lehkonen and defenceman Ben Chiarot.

«They see this as an opportunity to step up the rebuild.»

«Surprisingly, the Canadiens are also very interested in the Rangers Alexis Lafreniere, and might be offering enough that the Rangers could improve their blue line and be set for the future,» Eklund says.

Could a colossal deal happen between the two teams? Possibly Chiarot and Lehkonen in exchange for Lafreniere? Habs GM Kent Hughes seems very interested in bringing Alexis Lafreniere to Montreal.
