On Saturday, the Habs decided not to match the 6.1M$ offer sheet to Kotkaniemi. A few moments later, Marc Bergevin decided to acquire Christian Dvorak from the Coyotes for a 1st round 2022 and a 2nd round 2024.
The Coyotes will get the better of the two first round picks (MTL or CAR) owned by the Habs at the end of the season. If both are top-10 picks, Arizona gets the worst of the two.
Arpon Basu confirms that the Habs cannot trade their other 1st round pick:
«A few people asked so I checked to make sure, but I'm told the Canadiens can't trade their other first-round pick until the conditions attached to the first-rounder in the Dvorak trade are met/determined. So definitely not before the trade deadline.»
