Per TSN's Darren Dreger, the Toronto Maple Leafs and goaltender Frederik Andersen may be headed for an impasse that will more likely than not result in The Great Dane playing elsewhere next season.
Dreger, on TSN1050 on Monday, said that he feels as though Andersen and his camp believe he's worth a $5M AAV, if not more on a new deal, which may not be possible for the Leafs, given their current financial situation.
While both sides have revealed a mutual interest in potentially striking a new deal for Andersen to remain a Leaf next season and possibly beyond, this new information from Dreger, if true, could toss a wrench into the spokes for Toronto, who are somewhat limited in their replacement options within the UFA market.
The good news for Toronto in this scenario is that Andersen does have an interest in returning, which doesn't necessarily mean that he'd be willing to take a bit of a team-friendly deal, but it doesn't suggest otherwise either.
This situation will be one to watch closely over the next few weeks as we approach free agency on July 28th.
