One name that has been on everyone's lips for the past few days in the Canadiens' media is Sean Monahan.

This player is surprising everyone, thanks to some excellent performances that have restored his reputation, after a few disappointing seasons due to several major injuries.

His solid play in both directions of the ice makes him a very interesting target for a team that wants to add depth, leadership and a player capable of producing. No doubt he will be a highly coveted player on the trade market, but also as a free agent next summer.

Most experts believe that Monahan will be traded, as Kent Hughes can't afford not to get a return that will be very interesting for the organization's long-term future.

On the other hand, for the reasons listed above, there are many who believe that he could help the CH's cause in the longer term.

That said, could there be a genius move from Hughes on this one?

Obviously, with all the information currently circulating around Monahan, some fans have begun to dream of a perfect scenario. What if Kent Hughes pulls off the coup of the century, re-signing Monahan at a high price, and re-signing him this summer to boot?

After all, Monahan loves Montreal and Montreal loves Monahan. The plan could even be discussed with number 91 directly, before he is traded in the next few months.

(It's) rare to trade a player and get him back as an independent player, but imagine the scenario!

Getting a first-round pick (from the Flames) to acquire Monahan, trading him for a first-round pick, then re-signing him for free this summer? That would be something else (unbelievable)." - Eric Engels, reporter who covers the Montreal Canadiens for Sportsnet

It has to be said, how legendary this scenario could become for Hughes' career. Obviously, there are several factors to consider, but it's far from unrealistic either.

Imagine the recap.

In Montreal:

- Flames first round pick in 2025.
- 2023 first-round pick, obtained in a trade for the latter
- Maybe even more, if the price goes up at the trade deadline
- Sean Monahan (re-signed as a UFA next summer)

All this would be obtained for simple future considerations!

Clearly, this is a very hypothetical scenario, but the Habs are currently in a very strong position to build their future. The organization will absolutely be able to get a big return for Monahan and Hughes has exactly three months to discuss a future plan with his player and his agent.

If the 28-year-old centre is interested in returning to Montreal after being traded to a Stanley Cup contender, it would mean that this scenario is not far off.

Can you believe it?
