Although it was only January 4th, we may have already seen the matchup of the year.

It is always a treat when Canada and the US face each other in tournaments. Stakes are high, emotions are even higher.

While the US fell to Team Canada in this iteration of the World Junior Championship, it wasn't for a lack of effort.

They outshot team Canada by a wide margin, and while they lost 6-2, they theoretically scored four times.

This is where a controversy has emerged. It is not uncommon for a goal to be called back in a game but two consecutive goals? That got some people scratching their heads.

Team USA head coach Rand Pecknold spoke about the called-back goals after the game:

I would say I'm pretty frustrated with the two disallowed goals but I'm not going to comment on it. I'm not going to comment on officiating other than, you know, you've got 18, 19-year-old kids in this environment and you had two taken away. That's a huge part of the game for sure. But I'm not going to comment on the officials. The head officials can deal with that.

Whether the called back goals were warranted or not, it will always be one of the greatest hockey matchups in recent memory.
