Senators source Bruce Garrioch has since echoed the allegation, seemingly verifying Murray's waiver claim. Garrioch also said that the Murray team, and Murray himself, were unhappy with the choice, indicating that Murray had already informed him of their plans.
Murray may have a valid reason for being dissatisfied, and he may have found a defender in TSN insider Darren Dreger. On Saturday morning, Dreger stated that a number of players have failed to recover from harsh episodes of Covid, naming Matt Murray as one among them.
Senators head coach DJ Smith has indicated that if Murray clears waivers, he will be sent to the AHL. Murray's contract requires him to report to the Ottawa Senators' AHL affiliate, the Belleville Senators.
