With the Oilers getting swept by the Jets on Monday night, many were questioning whether or not McDavid wanted to remain with the team going forward, something he then discussed with the media on Tuesday.

«That's not the case at all,» McDavid said about some speculating he may want out. «We have a great core. We want to see this thing through together.

We have a great core here. Leon and Nursey, Nuge, Lars. These are guys that I've kind of grown up with and we want to see this thing through together, and we want to do this thing right as a group. It feels like we're lightyears away, but we're a lot closer than it feels today.»

McDavid also acknowledged the fact that with nearly $25 million in cap space this summer it will be a huge offseason for the Oilers, though he will leave that up to the higher powers to do. Of course, part of the reason they have much cap space is that they have many pending unrestricted free agents, including both Larsson and Nugent-Hopkins who he mentioned as being a part of the team's core. It will be a very interesting offseason in Edmonton, and a crucial one for GM Ken Holland.
