The Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman is off to a rocky start with his new team, having recorded eight points in 20 games so far this season.
Head coach Mike Sullivan made a shocking decision and offered Petry a huge promotion to help him break through.
"The Penguins just changed their personnel on the power play. Petry is being promoted.
PP1: Petry, Letang, Guentzel, Crosby, Malkin
PP2: Joseph, Rust, Rakell, Zucker, Carter "
- Taylor Haase, Pittsburgh reporter
This is the first time in three years that the Pens have used two defenders on the power play.
"We try to put players in positions where they can thrive and succeed" - Mike Sullivan, head coach
Petry's salary accounts for $6.25 million annually through 2025 on the Penguins' payroll.
