More Details Have Emerged About the Referee That Pushed Michael Bunting
The hockey world was set on fire yesterday when Michael Bunting was aggressively pushed off the ice by a referee.
In the midst of the controversy, the displeasure, and the calls for supplemental punishment, an interesting discovery was made.
In 2016, in the AHL playoffs, this referee, Dan Kelly, injured then Toronto Marlies player Andreas Johnsson with a dirty hit.
Beyond that, in 2017, Kelly played against Bunting in the AHL; Kelly with the San Jose Barracuda, and Bunting with the Tucson Roadrunners.
In his post-game interview, Bunting tried to cool off the situation, saying that this simply part of the sport.
I think emotions were high and it's hockey and you move on from it. It's not really that big of a deal.
However, anybody who watches a lot of hockey knows that referees seldom get this violent with players.
