NHL Takes Action After Three-Team Trade Incorrectly Filed Nearly Derails Deal
In a recent episode of the 32 Thoughts podcast. Elliotte Friedman hinted that the NHL will examine how three team trades will be handled in the future.
In a upcoming General Managers meeting, complaints and issues regarding the handling of three team trades are going to be addressed. Some teams complained that their deals weren't being fulfilled without informing the teams. Filing issues are another topic that will be addressed, the NHL was not allowing any modifications to trades once the first team submitted their part of the trade.
The league will have to tweak how three team trades are processed in order to guarantee fairness for all teams. Three team trades can get very complicated due to the involvement of retained salary and are usually highly detail oriented.
NHL teams want what is best for their organization and are very picky on other organizations following the rules.
Hopefully the league can settle these disputes in the league meetings next week.
