The Winnipeg Jets were the visiting team yesterday at the inaugural game of the Arizona Coyotes' new arena, Mullett Arena.
While the many images of the arena's facilities have been making the rounds on the web because they are not up to professional standards, nothing beats the comments of a player who lived the experience first hand.
Pierre-Luc Dubois commented on his experience at the Coyotes' new home and let's just say we're not too surprised to hear what he had to say.
It was our only game of the year here and I won't complain. The Coyotes, on the other hand, will play 41 games in this home. They're not the ones who are going to have to live with it anymore. If I had to play 41 games here, I wouldn't find it funny." - Pierre-Luc Dubois
The Quebecer also gave his opinion on the temporary locker room, which is far from what we usually see in the NHL.
We didn't know what to expect when we arrived, let's just say that our locker room was a little different from what we're used to. We're going back to our roots a little bit, like in junior." - Pierre-Luc Dubois
The 24-year-old Jets forward added that the atmosphere was good despite the very small size of the amphitheatre, but it was a far cry from a normal 20,000 person atmosphere.
"For 5,000 people, there was some noise, but let's just say that when you're playing in front of 20,000 people, even in an arena that's not necessarily the biggest in the NHL, there's still more noise." - Pierre-Luc Dubois
The former third overall pick in 2016 recounted a very surprising fact though, which turns out to be a very positive point of his experience.
"This is the best ice across the National League. Usually the quality of the ice is best in Montreal at the Bell Centre. But it's even better here. It's incredible." - Pierre-Luc Dubois
We always appreciate the straight talk of the Quebecer!
