Price, at 34, has four more seasons left on his contract, worth $10.5 million per year.

With a totally reconstructed management team in place in Montreal, the crease's future will be a heated topic in 2022. Recently, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet stated on the podcast 32 Thoughts that he believes the team and the veteran goalkeeper will need to discuss their options shortly.

Other teams might be interested in Price if he shows that he's still got it like last year's playoff run. That conversation will have to happen at some time. You have two options, either you let Price play a few games before the season ends and trade him in the off-season, or let him retire in Montreal.

Elliotte Friedman: «Would the Canadiens and Price say well maybe another team might want you, but the only way that could work is if you get healthy and play some games this year so other teams can see that you're alright. I think at some point that conversation is going to have to happen.»

Mid-season trades for him and his $10.5 million deal are difficult, the Canadiens would need to retain a pourcentage of his salary. Offseason transactions aren't subject to the cap, so expect a move this summer if he isn't traded this season. The Colorado Avalanche, Vancouver Canucks, and Edmonton Oilers are three teams to watch in the coming months.

Get well Carey and comeback better! Hockey is a better place when Carey plays!
