You must remember the name David Ayres, the Zamboni driver whose life was transformed on Feb. 22, 2020, when he was called up in Carolina against Toronto at Scotiabank Arena.
Ayres was named as the emergency backup at the age of 42.
He entered the second period leading 3-1. He was beaten by the first two shots, but he stopped the next eight and went on to win!
Since then, Ayres has become a legend in Carolina, where he has been honored and praised numerous times since that dreadful day in 2020.
Ayres had great news on Wednesday, as he was named head coach of the Vermillion County Bobcats of the Southern Professional Hockey League.
