It's no secret that Eichel is dissatisfied with the Sabres, and all signs point to the team accepting trade offers this offseason. But, ultimately, where will he end up? Most experts believe the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins are the most likely destinations for Eichel, but Friedman claims that nearly ten teams are vying for his services. Friedman got insider knowledge that the St. Louis Blues may be a big player in Eichel trade negotiations, which is interesting.
Check it out:
«LA can do it, Anaheim can do it, Ottawa can do it but I don't see it. Montreal can do it. You know someone told me that St. Louis wanted to move some of their young pros and he could see St. Louis putting together a package to do it. Winnipeg could do it but number one on the list has to be the Rangers. Boston's going to want to do it and Columbus is going to want to do it, but the Rangers is who everyone is looking at.»
To be honest, I'd never considered the Blues before, but it makes a lot of sense. The Blues have a range of young players they could give to the Sabres to help them get back on track. Jordan Kyrou, Robert Thomas, and Klim Kostin are all exciting young players who could be more appealing to the Sabres than draught picks or juniors.
Who are we kidding, though? Isn't it going to come down to the Rangers and the Bruins? With veteran David Krejci's $7.25 million deal coming off the books, the Rangers have every kind of assets the Sabres may want, and the Bruins will look to be aggressive this offseason. On the other hand, the Bruins must set aside funds for the trading deadline and former Eichel teammate Taylor Hall. However, since Eichel is a Boston native, expect the Bruins to go to great lengths to acquire him this offseason. I'm just not convinced they have the same assets as the Rangers.
