Guest on Marc-Antoine Godin and Arpon Basu's podcast, Support Athlétique, insider Pierre LeBrun says that several teams are interested in Edmundson.
He compares him to Artturi Lehkonen, who wasn't necessarily on the market last year, but who many teams were interested in.
Reporters are linking the Canadiens' defenseman to the Washington Capitals.
Several Capitals defensemen are in the last season of their contract. Getting Edmundson, whose contract ends in 2023-24, could be a solution for the training.
In addition, the veteran could help the team with its playoff and Stanley Cup aspirations, having already won one before.
It remains to be seen if Kent Hughes will trade the defenseman or wait until next year when the player is in the final year of his contract.
This season, Edmundson has six points in 33 games.
