Hockey Canada confirmed Eric Staal as the men's Olympic team captain on Tuesday.
Assistant captains David Desharnais and Maxim Noreau round out the Canadian leadership group in Beijing.
"Being named captain is an honour and something I take great pride in,» Staal said. "David and Maxim are outstanding leaders and players who deserve this honour. "Our entire team is delighted to be part of Team Canada and compete for a gold medal in Beijing."
In 2010, Staal helped Canada win the gold medal at the Olympics in Vancouver. Eric had 441 goals and 593 helpers in 1293 NHL games.
