The Minnesota Wild Have Given Up on a Top Player
The Minnesota Wild have given up on one of their top players.
Matt Dumba is one of the longest-serving members of the team, and he has been with them since they drafted him seventh overall in 2012.
According to Mike Russo of The Athletic, Wild GM Bill Guerin has no intention to re-sign Dumba. He went as far as to say that even if Dumba takes a discount to stay in Minnesota, Guerin would still be against it.
A trade is possible, but with the wild looking like a playoff team, they're likely just to keep him around. His $6-million cap hit would be hard to move, and the team is strapped by the buyouts of Zach Parise and Ryan Suter.
There is clearly a disconnect between Dumba and management, and it seems the direction is very clear. At this time next year, Dumba will assuredly be in different threads.
