During the Insider Trading segment on TSN, insider Chris Johnston revealed the reason the Red Wings placed Jakub Vrana on waivers.
According to Johnston, the return of Robby Fabbri and Tyler Bertuzzi soon will put the Red Wings over the salary cap, if Vrana remains in the lineup.
The hockey expert said Vrana is healthy and ready to play right now.
With today's new NHL reality, it's likely that Vrana will go unclaimed and a team will trade with the Red Wings for an extra draft pick.
In two games this season with Detroit, before joining the League's player assistance program, Vrana had two points. In 26 games last season, he scored 19 points.
His salary is $5.25 million through 2023-2024.
