Darnell Nurse, Cale Makar, and Seth Jones all signed new long-term contracts for $9 million each season. With Morgan Rielly, the Toronto Maple Leafs face a salary cap issue next season.
Do the Leafs trade or re-sign Rielly? The Leafs just do not have the cap capacity to pay Rielly $7.5-$8 million per year.
Toronto Sun's Steve Simmons says the Leafs face a difficult choice. Sign Rielly? Let him walk like Zach Hyman? If they do sign him, it will add at least $3 million to a payroll already over the salary cap.
If goaltender Jack Campbell has a season like last year, Simmons says he will be entitled a raise as well.
In my opinion, Leafs should trade Rielly for a top 6 Forward and a top 4 Dman. This will add more debt the roster. They cannot add another player for 9M$...
