One Leafs correspondent has revealed the one trade that could solve all of the Leafs' problems. It would be with the Vancouver Canucks, and it would improve them at defence, and at forward.
Joshua Kloke of The Athletic has proposed a duo of Luke Schenn and Connor Garland as the perfect solution for Toronto.
This makes perfect sense, as they won't be abhorrently expensive to acquire, and they are both relatively cap-friendly.
Schenn, who the Leafs once drafted fifth overall, only makes $850,000 which will fit in perfectly. As for Garland, Kloke suggests the Canucks could retain 25% of his deal. This would lock him up long term right around $3.7-million.
In return, the Canucks would get a 2024 2nd, a 2023 3rd, and Alex Kerfoot.
This is truly a perfect solution for both teams - long-term cap relief for the Canucks, and affordable upgrades for the Leafs. The question is, can Kyle Dubas pull it off?
