With many players taking advantage of the break for vacations, it's common for a bit of rust to show in the first game back. However, Rasmus Sandin made it clear that he was ready to hit the ground running.
As the first period began, Columbus Blue Jackets forward Kent Johnson attempted to bring the puck into the Leafs' zone.
But, his plan quickly went awry as he ventured towards the middle of the ice. Instead of finding the open space he was hoping for, he found himself on his back, searching for his glove that had flown off, courtesy of a powerful hit delivered by Sandin. The hit sent a message to both teams that Sandin was not to be underestimated.
The open-ice hit executed by Rasmus Sandin was a perfect example of proper technique, as his elbow was tucked and his skates glided on the ice surface without any head contact.
Yet, Cole Sillinger felt compelled to confront Sandin. Little did he know, Sandin had the last laugh as Sillinger recklessly retaliated with a slashing penalty on the play, aimed at Sandin's shin pad.
