The Maple Leafs are in need of bolstering their blue line and may be able to do so with this massive trade proposal.

Leafs Could Target Top Defenseman

Last year, the Leafs fell short of advancing to the third round. One of the major reasons why this happened was their star players' falloff in round 2.

Facing off against the Panthers, William Nylander only had 3 points in 5 games which simply is not enough. In addition to Nylander's scoring drying up, the other members of the core four had their scoring stop in the 2nd round.

Due to this, a trade proposal has surfaced that would give the Leafs a more balanced roster.

Mock Trade Analysis

The trade is relatively straightforward, the Leafs trade away the top asset and a bit more for two slightly worse assets.

Morrissey would provide a kick to the blueline. He is coming off a monster year where he scored 76 points in 78 games. However, he is primed for regression with his second-best season being only 37 points which is rather disappointing.

The Leafs know that Morrissey is coming off a strong season and know it would be difficult to replicate but if he comes to Toronto, it would not be out of the picture.

The Leafs also get Nikolaj Ehlers who is a consistent 60-point player. He has struggled with staying healthy but when he is on his game, he is a top asset and could be the perfect player to compliment Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews on the Leafs' top line.

Ehlers is also willing to drop the gloves when necessary.

To get this, the Leafs would be giving up Nylander and young defenseman Timothy Liljegren, who could develop into a star in his own right, and a 3rd round pick to make things happen.
