Only a few weeks after sending Elias Lindholm to the Vancouver Canucks in return of Andrei Kuzmenko, it looks like another trade could happen soon.
With less than a month before March 8th's deadline, the Flames officially placed Noah Hanifin on the trade block, according to insider Elliotte Friedman.
According to him, a few Canadian teams could be interested, but American organization believe they could get him long-term more easily.
This is what he said during an intermission yesterday:
This pretty much confirms two things: Hanifin will be traded, and it likely won't be to a Canadian team.
Looking at the top contenders in Canada, the Canucks, Maple Leafs and Oilers are the teams that could be interested. However, with their current situation, can any of them really afford him?
Hanifin is currently playing through the last season of his six years contract at $4,950,000 AAV.
The Flames apparently want a first-round pick for the defenseman, which already eliminates teams from the race.
The Leafs and the Canucks already traded their 2024 first-round pick, leaving the best chances to the Oilers to land him. However, Edmonton's issues lies in the salary cap. With less than $2 million available, they'll need to make other moves before being able to secure Hanifin.
