Bernstein was recently on a podcast run by Sportsnet where they were discussing the possibility of Mitch Marner being traded by the Leafs this summer. Hypothetical Marner trades have become quite popular as fans are expecting the team to make major moves this offseason. In this particular scenario, Bernstein believes Marner will be traded to the Golden Knights in exchange for William Karlsson and Shea Theodore.
That being said, the Leafs have been suspiciously quiet about Marner over the last couple of weeks. As a result, many fans are now speculating that the Leafs superstar may not be traded at all.
NHL insider David Pagnotta revealed earlier this week that Marner has not submitted a list of nine teams that he would be willing to go to. Despite the fact that Marner has a full no-move clause, it was previously speculated that he had given a list of teams that he would be open to waiving it for. Now that no longer appears to be the case.
Throw in the fact that Marner was seen chatting with Craig Berube in public last week and suddenly it looks like he may not be traded after all. That being said, a trade to the Golden Knights would certainly be more exciting for everyone involved. Be sure to stay tuned this summer to see what actually happens.
