Avalanche GM reveals Pavel Francouz is likely done for in the NHL
Recently Colorado Avalanche GM Chris MacFarland admitted that his Czech goaltender, Pavel Francouz, is likely finished in the NHL after injury problems.
In a troubling turn of events, it looks like goaltender Pavel Francouz's NHL career and hockey career are finished. In a recent interview, Avalanche GM Chris MacFarland said it does not look like Francouz will ever play again.
"Chris MacFarland described Pavel Francouz's situation as akin to retirement based on the nature/timing of his injury. Said he's not currently planning to ramp up to return to play."
Francouz, 33 and a native of Czechia, only has 73 career NHL games under his belt but certainly could have had a longer career. In 2018-19, the Colorado Avalanche took a chance on Francouz and he did not disappoint.
A playoff performer, Francouz was a key member of the Colorado Avalanche's Stanley Cup run. Francouz is currently in the second year of a 2-year $4 million contract that he signed in 2022.
Francouz receives an outpouring of support from Avalanche fans
After this news was announced, Francouz received loads of support from Avalanche fans. Here are a couple of the heartfelt messages he received.
Thanks for the memories Frankie.
I always said he was the avs secret weapon. The backup was just as good as any of the last 3 starters. The Oilers found out in the 22 WCF.
He was arguably the best backup the avs ever had, but I liked Budaj too, so we can call it a draw.
He got his money and his ring. A well deserved ring I might add. Salute Frankie
In my opinion this guy could have been a starter over half the league. I remember watching him backstop the Avs to a series sweep of Nashville when Kuemper went down... Amazing stuff. He's earned an early retirement.
We wish nothing but the best for Francouz and hope he is able to live a happy and healthy life after his NHL retirement!
