Barring those that want to play in a true hockey city like Montreal or Toronto, cities like Winnipeg, Ottawa, and Calgary are often undesirable.
Another city many players have on their lists is the Edmonton Oilers. As cool as it would be to play with Connor McDavid, harsh Alberta winters tied with elevated taxes make the Oilers a less popular trade choice.
It appears that a top deadline name has decided to refuse a trade to the Oilers:
Jake McCabe of the Chicago Blackhawks is a prime deadline target due to his affordable cap hit. At only $4-million, McCabe is already a bargain, but with reports that Chicago is willing to retain for the duration of his contract, it could be an even more digestible $2-million.
This is exactly what the Oilers need, as their cap situation is far from amazing.
Unfortunately, it appears that McCabe will refuse any trade to Edmonton:
This is tough news for the Oilers, who will need to get creative to find a fit to improve their roster as the deadline looms.
We will see where McCabe ends up, but it assuredly won't be Edmonton!
