Marc-Andre Fleury Almost Fights Evegny Svechnikov as Tensions Rise in San Jose
Players almost never fight goalies. It's somehwat of an unspoken rule in hockey that goalies are off limits. Evgeny Svechnikov clearly didn't get the memo.
Svechnikov Tries to Fight Fleury
Marc-Andre Fleury was just minding his own business between the pipes when Svechnikov started to poke him with his stick. The 26-year-old doesn't do much on the scoresheet, so clearly he wanted his impact to be felt somewhere.
You can see Fleury consider dropping the gloves (or blocker), but he ultimately deemed it wasn't worth it.
After the game, Marcus Foligno exclaimed that this act on Fleury fired the Wild up, and that it was the boost they needed.
It got our blood flowing. A turning point in the game.
Going after a goalie is always a mistake, but going after one as esteemed as Fleury could lose your team a game!
