We don't really know when Michkov will be able to join the NHL, but his KHL contract ends in three years. It's safe to say we won't see him in the NHL before that.
Even if drafting him was a risk, Daniel Briere did it. Why? Because Michkov absolutely wanted to play for the Flyers.
With that angle, he doesn't seem like such a risk now. If he assured the Flyers' management that he would join the NHL after his KHL contract, there's no real need to worry about him.
However, there's another top prospect in Philly that Briere should worry about.
There were two major absences when the development camp started: Matvei Michkov and Cutter Gauthier.
Gauthier was drafted by the Flyers last year, with the fifth overall pick.
Now, without giving any reasons, he skipped the development camp in Philadelphia.
Briere talked about it during an interview:
When your GM needs to assume the reason for your absence, it's kind of a rough start for Gauthier with the new administration.
Fortunately for him, Briere seems patient and isn't worried about the situation.
It's hard to tell why he wasn't there, especially considering dev camp is one of the biggest steps towards the start of an NHL career.
