BREAKING: Brian Burke Finds New Job Just Hours After Being Fired by the Penguins

Just days after the Penguins missed the playoffs for the first time since 2006, Fenway Sports Group had a big decision looming. Stick with the management group that had built around their three aging stars, or take a new approach.

This morning, the Penguins announced that they will be moving on from both President of Hockey Operations Brian Burke, and General Manager Ron Hextall. Although massive news, this doesn't come as much of a surprise.

Ownership and a good chunk of the fanbase understand where this Penguins team is at. It is just part of the natural cycle that after so much playoff success, teams start to decline slowly.

The Penguins have put all their chips in the middle expending many draft picks and young players in order to remain competitive. This move by Penguins ownership tips their hat and shows us what direction this team may be headed in...

It will likely get really ugly in the Burgh before it starts to turn back around, but a rebuild is necessary.
