Brad Treliving hasn't been very active since the season started. His off-season additions proved to be a bit underwhelming, and he hasn't done anything since then.
Even with injuries to defensemen and major struggles between the pipes, he hasn't moved an inch. He only managed to secure William Nylander long-term. This is no small feat, but it doesn't really help the team win now.
As we get closer to the deadline, things will only get more complicated for Treliving.
There were many interesting candidates for the Leafs in the market. But we're only in February, and a few of them are already gone. Nikita Zadorov, Elias Lindholm, and Sean Monahan could've been great additions in Toronto.
He could still target other players around the NHL. In fact, that's probably what he'll do, but there's no denying that fans would've loved to see one of these three players with the Leafs.
If Treliving continues to do nothing, the deadline will come, and the Leafs won't have any reinforcements for the playoffs.
He'll need to make decisions soon concerning his blue line and goaltending unit. With the state they're in, it's hard to imagine the Leafs having a long playoff run.
Samsonov, Woll, and Jones have all shown flashes of greatness, but none of them are ready to be the team's number one for the playoffs. Solving this would be a great way for Treliving to show the fans that he's actually working towards building a successful team.
